Meet the STudent Life Staff

Jamie has worked as a music director and church musician in California and Indiana after earning a degree in Dance in 2019. She is currently studying Music Education at Valparaiso University. She is thrilled to return as Dean of Students after serving as an LSM counselor in 2021 and looks forward to “being surrounded by a wonderful community that shares a passion for music!”

• Favorite Snack: Pretzels (but chocolate is amazing too!)

• Pets? I have a cat named Smudge ❤️

• Hobbies: Gardening, reading, spending time with friends, dancing

• Instruments: Piano, voice (soprano), horn (once upon a time)

• Favorite way to make or experience music: With friends, in moments of spontaneity.

Paul has recently graduated from Northwestern University with degrees in Opera and Political Science, and is excited to return after experiencing LSM as a student (2016 & 2017) and a fellow (2019). “It’s been a couple years now since my last summer at LSM, so I’m so excited simply to be back at such a special place and meet everyone coming this summer!”

• Pets? No, but I want two huskies!

• Hobbies: Spending time outdoors: camping, hiking, etc., gaming and binging TV shows!

• Favorite way to make or experience music: I love singing early music with a small ensemble of 3-10 people!

Isabella is joining the LSM for the first time this summer! She’s currently a Nursing student at Valparaiso University and is passionate about service and being present in community. “I am looking forward to working with LSM staff in order provide the most welcoming, cultivating environment possible for all who attend LSM!”

• Pets? Yes! Ellie the basset hound.

• Hobbies: Reading and spending time outdoors.

• Favorite way to make or experience music: My favorite way to make or experience music is as a part of a large group. It's an especially enjoyable moment for me when everyone else is enjoying the experience too.

Adam is a Music Education student at Valparaiso University who is joining LSM for the first time this summer! “I'm excited to get to know my students and to be able to spend my days worshipping and making music!”

• Pets? Two cats, Lily and Mily, and four new baby chicks!

• Hobbies: Writing and recording music and hanging out with my brothers.

• Favorite way to make or experience music: Jamming out to a jazz chart and improvising with friends!

Carolina is a Music Education student at Valparaiso University who has attended LSM in the past as a student (2018 & 2019). What does she have to say about coming back to LSM? “I am looking forward to literally everything! I can't wait to be back in the LSM community!”

• Favorite Snack: I love any combination of pretzels and peanut butter.

• Pets? My family has an Australian cattle dog named Carli.

• Hobbies: Over quarantine, I picked up knitting which has become a favorite hobby of mine. I also like to go for runs and bike.

• Favorite way to make or experience music: Singing with others, dancing or, ideally, doing both at the same time.

David is a Music Education student at Valparaiso University and can’t wait to be part of LSM for the first time: “The thing that I am most excited about for LSM is meeting new people and helping to build a strong and welcoming community.”

• Pets? I, unfortunately, do not have any pets. If I had a pet, I would have a dog.

• Hobbies: Building LEGO sets! I have almost 60 sets (most of them Star Wars).

• Favorite way to make or experience music: Singing with others, dancing or, ideally, doing both at the same time.

Emma is a Music Education and Vocal Performance student at Carthage College who will be returning to LSM as a counselor after having experienced LSM as a student! “I am looking forward to continuing to be a part of the wonderful community at LSM.”

• Pets? I have a total of three cats, one dog, a rabbit, and some fish.

• Favorite way to make or experience music: One of my favorite ways to make and experience music is in ensembles. Working with others to make music is super rewarding.

Katie is a Music Education student at Newberry College and is joining LSM for the first time. “I'm looking forward to seeing all of the students and working with them and making music!”

• Favorite way to make or experience music: I love going to concerts and performances, and also singing!

Logan is a Music Education student at Valparaiso University. He will be coming to LSM for the first time! “I’m excited to challenge myself as a musician and for the welcome summer heat!”

Meghan graduated from St. Olaf College with a degree in Music Education in 2021 and has been working as a teacher in Minnesota. She has attended LSM in the past as a student and an intern, and is “most excited to reconnect with old friends and get back into performing.”

Zackery is a Vocal Performance student at Newberry College and will be coming to LSM for the first time. “I’m excited to meet other people who share a passion for music. I am looking forward with being able to share my experiences as a Vocal Performance major. I can't wait to grow as a community and make memories with everyone at LSM.”
