ALCM Residency at LSM 2022

Welcoming our partners in music and mission

LSM is thrilled to welcome the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians (ALCM) to campus during Festival Week of LSM 2022! As LSM approaches the culmination of a month of together in musical community, ALCM members will experience and add to the richness of our fellowship and join us in celebrating the next generation of Church leaders.

The LSM and ALCM communities will worship together, experience world-class performances from several shared Guest Artists, and these professional and vocational Church Musicians will witness the dedicated and creative work of the LSM 2022 students during Festival Week concerts and recitals.

From ALCM:

“…held in conjunction with the fortieth-anniversary season of Lutheran Summer Music—[this conference] invites participants to strengthen their gifts and explore new skills through workshops, discussions, and hands-on learning opportunities related to topics such as worship and technology, working with intergenerational voices, composition, enriching assembly song, nurturing faith and community, and more.

Framed by morning and evening prayer with the LSM community in Valparaiso University’s Chapel of the Resurrection, each day’s schedule includes opportunities for the ALCM and LSM communities to teach and learn together—indeed, from generation to generation. Thanks to generous financial support from Mark and Kathy Helge, participants will also have the opportunity to attend workshops and performances by three featured guest artists: the Minneapolis-based Cantus, the Leipzig-based Calmus, and organist Martin Jean.”

How ALCM Members can guarantee the bright future of Church Music

This is the perfect time for a student in your congregation to attend LSM, knowing that you support their experience and will be present on campus for the 2022 ALCM Conference to see their incredible progress and experience magnificent worship and music together. You and your student will both come home renewed, inspired, and ready to enrich the musical life of your congregation!

How to send a student to LSM:

  • Nominate a Student for LSM 2022 and encourage them to apply. Support from a caring adult (that’s you!) is the #1 way a student finds their way to LSM.

  • Support them in their audition and fundraising process as needed; your church can even become a Young Musician’s Partner to have any financial support matched!

If the student you nominate attends LSM 2022, there are exciting benefits for both of you:

ALCM Members receive:

  • $40 off your conference registration fee

  • A free copy of Sing with All the People of God by Chad Fothergill

Students receive:

  • A free one-year Student Membership to ALCM

  • A free copy of Sing with All the People of God by Chad Fothergill

  • A waived application fee to LSM 2022
