Sophia Butler

Dean of Students

Sophia Butler is a Minnesota-born and raised musician and 2009 and 2010 alumnus of LSM. She is passionate about creating social change and community through music and loves learning about music and cultures from around the world. After graduating from St. Olaf with a bachelor's in music, she went to Juneau, Alaska, to work with an El Sistema-inspired program teaching violin and viola to young Alaskans. After finishing her master's in teaching at the University of Alaska Southeast she was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to teach for a year in Malaysia. While there, she started a choir with 50 students at a rural school in Sarawak, land of the orangutans and hornbills. When she isn’t thinking about music for social change Sophia enjoys drinking coffee, knitting, running, and attending live music shows. She is incredibly excited to be back at LSM this summer to be part of an amazing community of musicians.
