Summer 2020 Digital Archive

In response to the cancellation of LSM 2020 resulting from the COVID-19 public health crisis, LSM faculty and staff worked to find creative ways to engage with our students and greater community. Over the course of the summer, we were able to feature several of your favorite parts about LSM, including practice tips, faculty performances, studio meetings, and more using social media and other online avenues. Virtual Evening Prayer

Like Luther’s Morning Prayer, the texts and music of our evening prayer liturgy are part of a beloved LSM tradition that helps express and nurture our core values of musical excellence, faith, and community. This version of Evening Prayer includes excerpts from services recorded in 2018 and 2019. Students, alumni, friends, and congregations may follow and sing along or play these familiar melodies on your instrument, with these resources:

Members of the LSM community were invited to take part in this “virtual choir,” conducted by Cantor Chad Fothergill.

Hymn Festival Watch Party

On July 22, 2020 (what would have been the final day of LSM 2020), we hosted a “watch party” on the LSM Facebook page, where around 80 people gathered to watch a broadcast of the 2019 LSM Hymn Festival “O Blessed Spring,” presented in memory of Paul Bouman. In anticipation of this event, several members of the LSM community gave short video messages about the purpose of hymn festivals and their memories of Paul Bouman.

If you would like to watch it yourself, be sure to download the watch party bulletin so you can sing along!
